Five reasons to visit Foto Fest

Posted: 05 Aug 2019

Our popular photography festival ‘Foto Fest’ is returning this September for its fourth year. The festival which started in 2015 has gone from strength to strength and is well renowned for it’s fantastic market place and expert panels. For fans of photography, it’s one you definitely don’t want to miss and here are 5 reasons why:

Amazing talks from amazing photographers

It’s not every day you get to hear from four well-known photographers within the industry. Tom Way, Rachael Talibart, Nigel Danson and headline speaker Martin Parr will all be giving talks about their experiences and about the industry.

Tom Way is a professional award-winning UK photographer who has won a range of international awards for his wildlife photography. Tom enjoys a fine art style approach and he regularly exhibits his work in galleries and exhibitions. His main passion is Africa where he focuses on Elephants and Lions in Kenya and Leopards in Zambia.

Rachael Talibert is a British photographer who specialises in coast photography. A former lawyer, Rachael discovered her inspiration of coast photography from a childhood spent at sea. She writes for photography magazines and has exhibited in major galleries all across the world including New York, London and Barcelona. Outdoor photography magazine described her as “one of the best outdoor photographers working in the UK today.”

Nigel Danson started photography when he was 11 years old developing black and white films. As he got older, he started a software company in the US and UK however after a serious accident, it made Nigel sort his priorities out and follow his passions. In 2017, he decided to combine his love for the great outdoors and photography together and became a full-time landscape photographer. Nigel also has an extremely popular Youtube channel, where he shares his latest adventures, tips and tutorials.

Martin Parr, Foto fests headline speaker, is one of the most well-known documentary photographers of his generation. He has published over 100 books and edited a further 30. His work has been displayed by many major museums including the Tate, the Pompidou and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1994, Parr became a member of the Magnum Agency, an international photographic cooperative owned by fellow photographers. In 2013, he became president of the Magnum Agency until 2017.

Q&A hosted by TogCast

Not only will you get to hear from industry professionals, but you will also get to take part in a Q&A hosted by The Togcast, an exceptional photography podcast. With a wide range of award-winning photographers on stage with different photographic passions, this will be a great opportunity to get any questions that have been niggling you during your photography journey.

The Togcast was launched in September 2016 by photographers Sam Gregory and Paul Sanders and has been growing since. The podcast aims to share a passion for photography across its platform in the form of interviews, videos, gear reviews, image reviews and blogs.

The Market Place

As seen at previous Foto Fests, the ever-popular Market Place will be returning and will be filled with leading brands from across the world, offering fantastic deals and invaluable product knowledge. You’ll also have the chance to try out the products to see if they suit you as a photographer.

Some of the top named brands who will be at the Market Place are:

Datacolor – An innovative colour management company headquartered in the US

Canon – A world-leading innovator and provider of imaging solutions

Sony – A worldwide brand with state-of-the-art technology

Spending the day with like-minded photographers

One of the best parts of previous Foto Fests is the number of like-minded people you meet while at the one-day event. It’s a fantastic opportunity to share skills and stories with like-minded people as well as gaining some more knowledge to help you in the future.

If you haven’t already, why not join our Facebook group? The group is filled with people who are also looking for hints and tips and also willing to help with any queries you may have, whether you’re an amateur or a pro.

State of the Art Facilities

This year’s Foto Fest is being hosted at The Edge at the University of Bath. The facility opened in February 2015 at a cost of £10.9million and has a 220-capacity theatre, studio space, three visual art galleries, a fine art studio, a digital art studio, a music studio, a dance studio and rehearsal rooms.

The Edge is located within the university campus and is only a small walk into town, meaning if you wanted to discover Bath and bring your camera to take shots after the event, you can. The event also has free parking all day meaning you can leave the car behind when you do.
