I’m not sure which is my greater passion, photography or travel. The two are inseparable in my mind. I travel to see, to experience, to understand, and photography is a key tool in this, as well as the way I can share the journey (in all senses) later.
Over the years my travels have taken me to wonderful far-flung places from Isfahan to Lhasa, the Sahara to the Gobi. But however impressive the sights, it is my encounters with ordinary/extraordinary people that mean the most to me. Sadly the resulting images often show a way of life that is under threat or perhaps already lost, giving them a haunting historical dimension.
I find international salons a useful touchstone for my photography (or maybe I just enjoy competitions!) At any rate I’m lucky enough to have won over 100 awards in categories including Travel, Nature, Portrait and Photojournalism. My work has appeared widely in the photographic press as well as in print form in exhibitions including Travel Photographer of the Year (Royal Geographical Society, London), RPS Travel Group (Fenton House, Bath) and Photokina (Germany).
Together with my husband, fellow Fotospeed photographer Peter Brisley, I am a regular club judge and speaker.
